Remove image metadata

Runs on your device

See and remove GPS location, camera details and dates from photos before sharing them, without re-compressing them.

How to use Remove image metadata

  1. Choose JPG, PNG or WebP photos.
  2. Select Remove metadata.
  3. Read what was found and removed for each photo, including any GPS location.
  4. Download the cleaned photos.

What photos reveal

A photo straight from a phone usually carries the exact GPS position where it was taken, the date and time to the second, the phone's make and model, and sometimes the editing software used. Posting it online or sending it to a stranger can reveal where you live or work. Social networks remove some of this when you upload, but email, chat apps and file sharing often keep it.

Before cleaning, this tool lists what it found in each photo, so you can see what was there: for example GPS location (28.6133, 77.2090) or Camera: Pixel 8.

Lossless cleaning

Most metadata removers decode the photo and save it again, which strips the metadata but also recompresses the image and loses a little quality each time. This tool doesn't decode the image at all. It walks through the file's structure and cuts out the metadata blocks, so the compressed image data is copied unchanged, bit for bit.

Removed: EXIF (camera, dates, GPS, software), XMP, IPTC captions, comments, and PNG text chunks. Kept: colour profiles, because removing them changes how colours display on screens and in print.

What happens to your photos

The photos are read and cleaned in this browser tab. They are never uploaded, which matters for a privacy tool: sending a photo to a server to remove its location would mean trusting that server with the location. Cleaned copies download individually or together in a zip, each named after the original with -clean added, so you can tell them apart from the originals.

Common uses

Cleaning photos before listing an item for sale online, sending pictures of your home to a contractor or landlord, sharing photos of children with other parents, posting to forums that keep original files, or handing over photos as evidence without revealing your phone model. Clean a whole batch at once and download them in one zip.

Questions

Does this lower the photo's quality?
No. The metadata is cut out of the file and the image data is copied unchanged, bit for bit. Nothing is re-compressed.
What is removed, and what is kept?
Removed: EXIF (camera, dates, GPS location, software), XMP, IPTC captions, comments and PNG text. Kept: colour profiles, because removing them changes how the colours look.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. The files are read and cleaned in your browser. That matters here: a privacy tool that uploads your photo defeats its purpose.
