How to use Resize image
- Choose one or more images.
- Resize by maximum width and height (keeps the shape), by percentage, or to an exact size.
- Select Resize.
- Download one image, or all of them in a zip.
Three ways to resize
Maximum width and height fits each image inside a box while keeping its shape: set a width of 1920 and leave height empty to make every image at most 1920 pixels wide, whatever its orientation. Set both to fit inside a square or a banner. Smaller images are scaled to the box too, so set the box to the size you need.
Percentage scales every image by the same factor, such as 50 percent for half the width and half the height. Exact size stretches each image to precisely the width and height you enter, which distorts it unless the shape already matches; use it only when a system demands exact dimensions.
Quality and formats
Images are resampled with your browser's high-quality smoothing and saved in their original format at high quality. Making an image smaller also makes its file much smaller; making it larger adds pixels but not detail.
Photos are turned the right way up before resizing, and metadata such as GPS location is not carried into the resized copy. Your originals are never changed: every resized image is a new file named with its new width and height, such as photo-1920x1440.jpg.
Common uses
Preparing product photos for a store's size limit, shrinking phone photos before attaching them to an email, making images the width of a blog's content column, or bringing a batch of scans to the same width. Several images are resized in one go and download as a single zip, each named with its new size.
Limits
Widths and heights can go up to 20,000 pixels, and percentages up to 1,000. There is no daily limit and no file-size cap set by us; the practical limit is your device's memory. Formats other than JPG, PNG and WebP, such as GIF, BMP and AVIF, are saved as PNG, which is lossless, and an animated GIF keeps only its first frame.
Questions
- Will my image be stretched?
- Only if you choose Exact size. Maximum width/height and Percentage always keep the original shape.
- What format do I get back?
- The same format you put in: JPG stays JPG, PNG stays PNG, WebP stays WebP. Other formats, such as GIF, BMP and AVIF, come back as PNG, which is lossless.
- Are my images uploaded?
- No. They are resized in your browser and never leave your device.
