Runs on your device

Type, draw or upload your signature and place it on any page of a PDF, with the date, without uploading the document.

Your signature

How to use Sign PDF

  1. Choose the PDF to sign.
  2. Type your name, draw your signature, or upload a picture of it.
  3. Pick the page and click where the signature should go; adjust its size.
  4. Select Sign PDF and download the signed copy.

Three ways to sign

Type your name and it's written in a handwriting-style font, which suits most everyday agreements. Draw your signature with a mouse, a trackpad, or your finger or a stylus on a phone or tablet, for something closer to your real hand. Or upload a picture of your signature, ideally signed in dark ink on white paper and photographed straight on; a PNG with a transparent background looks best. Whichever you use, the empty space around the signature is trimmed so it sits neatly on the page.

Placing it

Choose the page, then click on the page preview where the signature should go, usually above a signature line. The preview shows exactly where it will land; use the size slider to make it fit the space. Today's date can be added underneath, which most forms ask for. The signature is drawn into the page itself, so it appears the same in every PDF viewer and when printed.

What kind of signature this is

This places a visual signature, the electronic equivalent of signing a printout and scanning it back. Many contracts, permission slips, invoices and HR forms accept that. It is not a certificate-based digital signature, which cryptographically proves who signed and that the document hasn't changed since; some legal and government processes require one, and this tool doesn't create it.

Private by design

The documents people sign are often the most sensitive they handle, and a signature is personal. Here the PDF is read, previewed and signed entirely in your browser: neither the document nor your signature is uploaded, and the signature isn't saved anywhere after you close the page.

Common uses

Signing an offer letter, a rental agreement or a supplier contract sent as a PDF, approving an invoice or expense form, or signing a school or travel consent form from your phone, all without printing and scanning. Merge pages first if several documents need one signature.

Questions

Is this a legally valid signature?
It's an electronic signature in the everyday sense, like signing a printout and scanning it, which many agreements accept. It is not a certificate-based digital signature that proves the document hasn't changed since signing; where that is required, use a certificate-based service.
Is my document or signature uploaded?
No. The page preview is drawn and the signature placed in your browser. Neither the PDF nor your signature leaves your device, and nothing is saved.
Why is signing free here?
Because it costs us nothing to run: the work happens on your device. Placing a signature is the most common PDF task people search for, so it shouldn't be behind a paywall.
