How to use Markdown editor

  1. Type or paste Markdown on the left.
  2. Check the preview on the right; it updates as you type.
  3. Copy the HTML, download it as a standalone .html page, or save the Markdown.

Write Markdown, see it as you type

Markdown is how READMEs, documentation, wikis, issue trackers and many note apps format text: # for headings, ** for bold, - for lists, backticks for code. This editor shows the formatted result next to your Markdown as you type, so you can check tables, nested lists and code blocks before you paste them into GitHub, a CMS or a document.

It supports GitHub-flavoured Markdown: headings, emphasis, links, images, ordered and bulleted lists, task lists with checkboxes, tables with column alignment, fenced code blocks, block quotes and strikethrough.

Export clean, safe HTML

Copy the HTML to paste into a page or an email template, or download a standalone .html file with simple readable styling that opens in any browser and prints well. The HTML is sanitised with DOMPurify before it's shown or exported: scripts, event handlers, javascript: links, forms and embedded frames are removed, so Markdown pasted from somewhere else can't run code. Links open in a new tab without passing on where they came from.

Private by default

Your text is rendered in your browser and never uploaded. Images that point to other websites aren't loaded until you allow them, because fetching an image tells its host when and where the document was opened, which is how email tracking pixels work. Blocked images show their address instead, and one switch loads them all.

Handy for

Drafting a README or release notes, previewing a pull request description, turning notes into a web page, checking how a table will render, and converting Markdown into HTML for a newsletter or a static site.

Quick syntax reminder

Start a line with # for a heading, ## for a smaller one. Wrap words in ** for bold and * for italics. Start lines with - for a bulleted list, 1. for a numbered one, and - [ ] for a task. Put code between backticks, or three backticks on lines of their own for a block. Build a table with | between columns and a line of --- under the header row.

Questions

Which Markdown does it support?
GitHub-flavoured Markdown: headings, emphasis, links, images, lists, task lists, tables, fenced code blocks, block quotes and strikethrough.
Why are images not showing?
Images from other websites aren't loaded until you turn on Load images from other websites, because fetching one tells its host that the document was opened, and some trackers rely on exactly that.
Is the HTML safe to publish?
The output is sanitised with DOMPurify: scripts, event handlers, javascript: links, forms and embedded frames are removed, so pasted Markdown can't run code in a page.
