Clean up pasted text
Text copied from PDFs, web pages, Word documents and chat apps brings hidden baggage: zero-width spaces that break searches and passwords, non-breaking spaces that stop lines wrapping, double spaces, stray spaces at line ends, piles of blank lines, and lines broken in the middle of sentences. This tool fixes them as you type and tells you exactly what it changed, for example 3 invisible characters removed and 12 broken lines joined, so nothing happens silently.
The fixes
Remove invisible characters takes out zero-width spaces and joiners, byte-order marks, soft hyphens and text-direction marks. Replace non-breaking spaces turns unusual space characters into ordinary ones. Collapse repeated spaces, trim spaces at line ends and collapse extra blank lines tidy the spacing without touching your words.
Join broken lines is for text copied from PDFs, where every line ends with a hard break: lines inside a paragraph are joined into one, words split across lines with a hyphen are put back together, and the blank lines between paragraphs are kept. Straighten curly quotes and plain dashes are off to start; turn them on when pasting into code, CSV files or systems that mangle typographic characters.
When it helps
Pasting a PDF passage into an email or a document, cleaning data before it goes into a spreadsheet, fixing a password or API key that won't work because a hidden character came along with it, preparing text for a word count or an AI prompt, and tidying copy from a CMS that keeps adding stray spaces.
