How to use Meme generator
- Choose a picture, drop it on the page, or start from one of the blank templates.
- Type the top and bottom text, and set the font size, text colour and outline colour.
- Add extra text boxes if you need them and drag them into place on the preview.
- Choose PNG or JPG, select Export and download the meme at the picture's own resolution.
Classic memes, made on your device
Choose a picture from your phone or computer, drop it on the page, or start from one of five blank templates: a black square, a white 16:9 card, two stacked panels, two panels side by side, and a white caption bar over a grey panel. The templates are plain shapes WeaveAI drew itself. There are no copyrighted meme images in the tool, so for a famous format, bring the picture yourself.
Type the top and bottom text and they appear in the classic style: bold white capitals with a black outline, the top caption hanging from the top edge and the bottom caption resting on the bottom edge. Long captions wrap onto more lines and shrink until they fit within about a third of the picture's height, so nothing runs off the side.
Your own captions
Add as many extra text boxes as you need and drag them around the preview with a mouse or a finger, or place them with the Across and Down sliders, which also work from the keyboard. Each extra box has its own font size, text colour and outline colour; the top and bottom captions share one text colour and outline, with a font size each. Switch off ALL CAPS to keep the text exactly as you typed it.
The lettering is Anton, an open-source font released under the SIL Open Font License that closely resembles Impact, the typeface classic memes use. WeaveAI hosts the font file on its own site and loads it the first time the editor opens, so no font service ever sees your visit.
Full-resolution export
The export is drawn at your picture's own pixel size, not the size of the preview, so a 4,000-pixel phone photo stays 4,000 pixels wide. Only a picture over about 16.7 megapixels is scaled down, to stay within the canvas size every browser can draw, and the tool says when that happens. PNG keeps every pixel sharp; JPG makes a much smaller file for chat apps and social posts, and fills any transparent areas with white.
Private by design
Your picture is drawn on a canvas inside this browser tab and the file is made there too. Nothing is uploaded, there's no watermark and no account, and once you close the tab nothing is left behind.
Questions
- Is my picture uploaded?
- No. The picture is drawn on a canvas in your browser and the PNG or JPG is made there too. The only thing fetched is the Anton font, once, from this site.
- Which font does it use?
- Anton, a free font under the SIL Open Font License that looks like the Impact lettering classic memes use. It is hosted on WeaveAI's own site, so no font service sees your visit.
- Are there meme templates?
- There are plain blank templates, such as a black square, two stacked panels and a caption bar, which WeaveAI drew itself. There are no copyrighted meme pictures: bring your own image for those.
- What size is the exported meme?
- The same pixel size as your picture, so nothing is lost. Only a picture over about 16.7 megapixels is reduced, to stay within the canvas size every browser can draw, and the tool says when that happens.
