Trim the margins off every page
Many PDFs come with wide white margins: scanned book pages, slides exported to A4, documents designed for binding. Cropping those margins makes the content larger on a phone or tablet, fits more onto a printed page, and gets rid of scanner edges and dark borders. This tool trims every page of a PDF by the number of millimetres you choose for the top, right, bottom and left edges.
A millimetre is about the width of the tip of a pencil; 10 mm is roughly the width of a fingernail. If you are not sure, start with 10 mm on each side, look at the result, and adjust. The tool refuses margins that would leave less than half an inch of the page, so a typo can't produce a blank sliver.
How cropping works in a PDF
Every PDF page has a media box, the size of the paper, and a crop box, the part viewers show. Some croppers only change the crop box, so the trimmed area still prints or reappears in other apps. This tool sets both boxes to the same area, so the trimmed part is gone in every viewer and every printer.
The content under the trimmed area is still in the file, just outside the page. That matters if you are trying to hide something: cropping is not redaction. To remove text or images for good, use Redact PDF, which rebuilds the page without them.
Tips
To crop only some pages, extract those pages with Extract PDF pages, crop them here, and put the document back together with Merge PDF. To fit cropped pages several to a sheet for printing, follow up with N-up PDF.
Private by design
The cropping happens in your browser, using pdf-lib and pdf.js, open-source libraries that run on your device. Your PDF is never uploaded, so contracts, statements and personal documents stay on your computer. Nothing is stored after you close the tab, and there is no account, watermark or file limit.
It works offline once the page has loaded, in any modern browser on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and iPhone. Because nothing is sent to a server, results appear as fast as your device can produce them, even for long documents.
Questions
- Is my PDF uploaded?
- No. The PDF is processed in your browser and never leaves your device.
- Is the trimmed part deleted?
- It's cut from both the area viewers show and the area that prints, so it no longer appears anywhere. The page content underneath is not erased from the file, so don't use cropping to hide sensitive text: use Redact PDF for that.
- Can I crop pages differently?
- This tool applies the same margins to every page. To crop only some pages, extract them first, crop them, then merge the PDF back together.
