How to use Edit PDF
- Choose the PDF to edit.
- Pick Text, Image, Rectangle, Ellipse, Line or White-out, then click or drag on the page to add it.
- Select an item to move it, resize it from its corner handle, change its font, colour or line width, or delete it. Undo steps back.
- Move between pages with the arrows or thumbnails, then select Save PDF and download the edited copy.
What you can add
Text comes in Helvetica, Times or Courier, regular or bold, from 4 to 200 points, in any colour, and can run over several lines. It is written as real PDF text, so it stays sharp at any zoom and can be selected and searched like the rest of the document. These built-in fonts cover Latin letters, digits and common punctuation.
Images can be PNG or JPEG, such as a logo, a stamp or a photo. Each is embedded at its full resolution; a JPEG goes into the file exactly as it is, without being compressed again. Shapes are rectangles and ellipses, with an outline, a fill or both, and straight lines, each with its own colour and a line width from half a point to 12 points.
Placing and changing items
Pick a tool, then click or drag on the page. Switch to Select to move an item by dragging it, or resize it from its corner handle: images keep their proportions, and resizing text changes its font size. The arrow keys nudge the selected item by a point, or ten with Shift held. Delete removes it, and Undo, or Ctrl+Z, steps back through every change. Use the arrows or the page thumbnails to move between pages; items are placed as you see the page, even on rotated pages.
Save PDF draws everything on top of the original pages. The page count and the existing content are unchanged, and your items stay in the editor, so you can keep adjusting them and save again.
What it doesn't do
This tool does not change the text already in the PDF. To correct a word, cover it with a white-out box and type the new wording over it. Be aware that white-out only hides content: the original text is still in the file and can be copied or searched. When something must truly disappear, such as a name or an account number, use Redact PDF, which rebuilds the affected pages so the text underneath no longer exists.
The PDF is opened, drawn and saved by code running in your browser tab. Neither the document nor the images you add are uploaded anywhere.
Questions
- Can I change the text that's already in the PDF?
- Not in place. This tool adds new content on top of the page. To replace a word or line, cover it with a white-out box and type the new text over it.
- Does white-out remove the text underneath?
- No. It paints a white box over the page, so the content is hidden when viewed or printed, but the original text is still in the file and can be selected or copied out. To remove text for good, use Redact PDF.
- Is my PDF uploaded?
- No. The pages are drawn and the edits written by code running in your browser tab. The PDF and any images you add never leave your device.
- Which fonts can I use?
- Helvetica, Times and Courier, each in regular or bold, at any size from 4 to 200 points. These are the fonts every PDF reader has built in, so the text looks the same everywhere and stays selectable and searchable. They cover Latin letters, digits and common punctuation.
