How to use PDF metadata editor
- Choose the PDF; its current details appear.
- Edit the title, author, subject, keywords or the app names.
- Select Save details, or Remove all details to clear them and the dates, then download.
The details hidden inside a PDF
Besides its pages, a PDF carries document properties: a title, an author, a subject, keywords, the name of the app that created it and the library that produced it, and the dates it was created and last changed. Browsers and PDF readers show the title in the tab or window title, search engines index it for PDFs on the web, and anyone can read the rest in the document properties.
Those details are often wrong or revealing. A report might still carry the title of the template it was copied from, or an author name from a colleague's computer, or show which app and when it was edited. This tool shows every one of those fields so you can correct them, or clear them all.
Edit or remove
Change any field and select Save details to write a new PDF with your values; leaving a field empty removes it. Remove all details clears every field at once, together with the creation and modification dates and the separate XMP metadata block, which can hold editing history that the ordinary fields don't show. The pages themselves are untouched.
Good to know
Setting a clear title is one of the simplest ways to make a PDF look professional when it is opened in a browser or shared online. To strip location and camera data from photos rather than PDFs, use Remove image metadata. To hide content on the pages, use Redact PDF.
Private by design
The editing happens in your browser, using pdf-lib and pdf.js, open-source libraries that run on your device. Your PDF is never uploaded, so contracts, statements and personal documents stay on your computer. Nothing is stored after you close the tab, and there is no account, watermark or file limit.
It works offline once the page has loaded, in any modern browser on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and iPhone. Because nothing is sent to a server, results appear as fast as your device can produce them, even for long documents.
Questions
- Is my PDF uploaded?
- No. The PDF is processed in your browser and never leaves your device.
- What does Remove all details clear?
- The title, author, subject, keywords, the names of the apps that made the file, the creation and modification dates, and the separate XMP metadata block that can carry editing history.
- Why does the title matter?
- Browsers and PDF readers show the title in the tab or window instead of the file name, and search engines use it for PDFs on the web.
