How to use Split PDF
- Choose the PDF you want to split. Its page count appears next to the name.
- Pick how to split it: every page, every few pages, or your own ranges such as 1-3, 4-6.
- Select Split PDF. The new files are built in your browser.
- Download them together as a zip, or one by one.
What happens to your file
When you choose a PDF, your browser reads it into the memory of this tab. The work runs in a background worker inside the same tab, using pdf-lib, an open-source PDF library. The result is handed back to the page and saved through your browser's normal download.
Nothing is sent to WeaveAI or anyone else, so there is no copy to delete afterwards. You can check: open your browser's developer tools, switch to the Network tab, and run the tool. You will see the PDF engine load once from this site, and nothing carrying your document.
Three ways to split
Every page makes one file per page, which suits pulling apart a stack of scanned receipts or single-page forms. Every N pages makes files of a fixed length, for example 2 for double-sided forms or 10 for chapters of equal size; the last file holds whatever is left.
Custom ranges give you full control. Write one range per output file, separated by commas: 1-3, 4-8, 9- makes three files, the last running to the end. A page can appear in more than one range if two documents need it, such as a shared cover page.
What you get back
The files arrive in a single zip, named after your original with a zero-padded number and their page span, so they sort in page order in any file manager. If you only need one or two of them, open the list under the download button and save them individually.
Pages are copied rather than re-rendered: text stays selectable and searchable, images keep their resolution, and each file only carries the fonts and images its own pages use. The new files carry no author, title or dates from the original, and do not record when you split them.
Limits
There is no daily limit and no file-size cap set by us. The practical limit is your device's memory: a few hundred pages split comfortably on a typical laptop, and very large scans may be slower on a phone. Password-protected PDFs need the password removed first, in the application that created them.
Questions
- Is my PDF uploaded?
- No. The file is split by code running in your browser tab, and the zip is built there too. Nothing is sent to a server.
- How are the new files named?
- Each file is named after the original with a number and its pages, for example report-03-pages-7-9.pdf. Numbers are zero-padded so the files sort in page order.
- Can a page appear in two of the new files?
- Yes, with custom ranges. Ranges such as 1-3, 3-5 put page 3 in both files.
- Does splitting reduce quality?
- No. Pages are copied as they are, so text stays selectable and images keep their resolution.
