Watermark PDF

Runs on your device

Add a text or logo watermark to a PDF's pages, at the size and opacity you choose, in your browser.

How to use Watermark PDF

  1. Choose the PDF.
  2. Type watermark text, such as CONFIDENTIAL or DRAFT, or choose a logo image.
  3. Set the opacity and size, and whether text runs diagonally.
  4. Select Add watermark and download the result.

Text watermarks

A text watermark such as CONFIDENTIAL, DRAFT or SAMPLE tells every reader the status of a document at a glance, and makes it obvious when a copy is circulated where it shouldn't be. The text is drawn in bold across the centre of each page, diagonally by default, in grey at the opacity you choose. Around 15 to 25 percent is visible without getting in the way of reading; increase the size for large pages or short words.

Logo watermarks

Choose Image or logo to place your logo in the centre of each page instead, sized as a share of the page width. A PNG with a transparent background gives the cleanest result; a JPG shows its rectangular background. The image is embedded once and reused on every page, so even a long document grows only by the size of the logo.

Choosing pages

Leave Pages empty to mark every page, or enter a selection such as 2- to leave the cover clean, or 1, 5-8 for specific pages. The watermark is drawn on top of the existing content and doesn't change the text underneath, which stays selectable and searchable.

Limits and privacy

A watermark marks a document; it doesn't protect it. Anyone with a PDF editor can remove an added layer, so for sensitive material also control who receives the file. The built-in font prints Latin text; for other scripts, use an image watermark. The PDF is processed in your browser and never uploaded, and your original file is left unchanged.

Common uses

Marking a contract DRAFT while it's being negotiated, stamping CONFIDENTIAL on a board paper or a set of accounts, putting SAMPLE across a template or price list you're sharing, or adding your studio's logo to a portfolio or proposal before sending it to a prospect. Combine it with page numbers to prepare a document for formal circulation.

Questions

Can a watermark be removed?
A watermark discourages copying and marks status, but anyone with a PDF editor can remove it. For documents that must not be altered, also restrict who receives them.
Does the watermark cover the text?
It's drawn on top of the page at the opacity you choose, so text underneath stays readable. 15 to 25 percent suits most documents.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. The watermark is added in your browser and the file never leaves your device.
