Placeholder text for layouts
Designers, developers and writers use placeholder text to fill a layout before the real words exist: a website mock-up, an app screen, a brochure, a slide template or a test page. Lorem ipsum is the traditional choice because it looks like ordinary text, with a natural mix of word and sentence lengths, but can't be read, so people reviewing a design look at the layout rather than the wording.
This generator produces as many paragraphs, sentences or words as you need. Paragraphs vary between four and seven sentences and sentences between six and fifteen words, with the occasional comma, so blocks of text have the uneven edges real copy has. Start with the familiar 'Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet' opening, or leave it out.
Exact lengths for testing
Choosing words gives an exact count, which is useful well beyond mock-ups: checking how a product card copes with a long title, whether a button label wraps on a phone, where a headline truncates, or how a database column handles a long value. Pair it with the word counter to test character limits too, or with the fake data generator when you need realistic names and numbers instead.
Plain text or HTML
Turn on Wrap in <p> tags to get each paragraph as an HTML paragraph, ready to paste into a template, a CMS's code view or a component's test fixture. Without it you get plain text with blank lines between paragraphs, ready for design tools, documents and slides.

The words are scrambled from a passage of Cicero's De finibus bonorum et malorum, a work on ethics written in 45 BC. Printers have used versions of it as filler since at least the 1500s, and it carried over into desktop publishing and the web.
